The Music Video for Paparazzi was released back in 2009 reaching a total of 135,258,125 views. The video opens with a circular fade in reviling the scenery and sound, we can see trees which are commonly found near a beach/coastal area with the sun gleaming against the trees which are blocking the sunlight from the camera lens.
In the next shot we see an establishing shot of the mansion in which we as the audience presume lady gaga is living there. We can see a row of flowers and bushes with red and white flowers this could tell us that the white symbolises purity but the redness within the flowers could symbolise danger, maybe this is to make us aware that love isn't all true and that they wont live happily ever after like in a fairy tale, the scenery could suggest that she's living in a fantasy.
after a couple shots of the outside of the house with some flowers, a new shot of a balcony with a branch of red flowers are seen hanging off a balcony with some text below it which says 'a serial pictures production' the flowers look like they've fallen off the side of the balcony which could maybe suggest that the red flower is supposed to represented as Lady gaga
after this a low angle shot viewing the bottom of the balcony is seen which then changes to a mud scene where by it looks like a mud splatter, this could help make the theory of someone falling over the edge of a balcony possible. A few more shots viewing the decor inside the house including a chandelier and a shot of the floor with some tables/chairs. The next text frame seen is introducing Lady gaga into the video with text saying 'Staring Lady Gaga' with a pink/purple flower which looks like its opened up and spread its petals, this could be a similar reference to herself, this could mean that the flower is like an eagle (a bold and majestic creature who's spread its wings)
a few more shots of the decor are seen including some text which reads 'and Alexander Skarsgard' with is placed next to a naked male statue. A shot of the bedroom floor is seen with money, diamonds, gold bars and jewellery thrown everywhere. This is to show us how rich and wealthy Lady gaga is in the video.
A shot of the balcony is seen inside the house with two arches, these two arches could symbolise the characters in the house. one door reveals a chair and table with the view of the sea, the other reveals the statue seen earlier in the shots, the statue looks like its walking towards the edge of the balcony where a bottle of champagne is placed with two glasses, this could suggest they are both going to go out onto the balcony later on in the video. The shot then reveals the title for the video 'Lady Gaga in Paparazzi - directed by Jonas Akerlund'.
After the titles are presented in the video the shot changes to the couple cuddling on a bed, with subtitles reading 'Do you love me?' the two characters have a heartfelt moment on the bed in which they end up passionately kissing
after the passionate kissing the couple get up and head out onto the balcony, Lady Ga Ga wraps her legs around the male character to emphasise the connection between the two, she locks her legs around him to show how she cant let him go
The male character sits Lady Ga Ga on the balcony and holds her face, this shows that he's in control and has lady ga ga on his finger. The champagne bottle and two glasses have been placed there to show that the characters are celebrating, this links in with the money and gold which were placed on and by her bed.
The male character then asks Lady Ga Ga if she trusts him and she tells him that she does, by now we realise that the character is someone who is trying to label lady ga ga in the media by making money from slamming her in the press with pictures of her with a man passionately kissing.
As soon as Lady Ga Ga realises what he's done she punches him and trys to get away from him. The male character then throws her off the balcony which shows us that he's only doing this for the money otherwise this would have ended differently.
After the male character throws her off the balcony, it then cuts to a shot of lady ga ga modelling in front of a whirl pool, this is to show how the media slate her and drag her down (she is slowly falling until the point of no return in the whirl pool - like she's day dreaming).
As soon as she is found lying on the ground paralysed the paparazzi immediately run over and start taking pictures of her saying things like 'beautiful, that it' this represents the fact that even in a serious situation if she ever hurts herself or ends up emotional the press still slate her and will never help her.
when the music starts to play we see Lady ga ga arriving at the hospital wearing black and purple with a purple carpet and a black limo. To the audience this looks like a funeral so this shows us that by going into hospital they're treating her as if she died.
When she starts to sing we see her on a golden sofa with her hand around her neck, this shows us that everything that the media does is suffocating her, making her not be able to breathe without anything being slammed in the press.
In this shot we see Lady ga ga standing up out of her wheel chair and on crutches, the costume she is wearing represents all the neck braces and casts she would be in if she was to go to hospital. its chrome to show how no matter how hard the media looks at her they'll never see what her wounds actually look like.
During the second verse of the song we see a montage of girls lying dead on the floor on a chair, in a bathtub and outside by the pool, this could represent what happens if she gets her friends involved in the press, they'll get slated too, the press will ruin them.
when the second chorus starts we see lady ga ga in a hall dressed in black, white hand silver. this represents what the media is doing to her. she is wearing a fully white costume with a black dress surrounding the left side of lady ga ga's body with black stripes clinging onto her legs. this shows us that the press is the black part of her costume and they're locking themselves around her legs, just like lady ga ga did to the male character at the start of the music video.
A montage of shots are seen in the bridge of the song, with flashing lights. This is to represent how she gets put in a corner all the time and can never escape the press if put in a bad situation. In this frame we see lady ga ga imitating a photographer with her tongue out, this looks very psychedelic and makes us think that the press are making her go crazy
After the montage we see Lady ga ga looking healthy sitting next to her boyfriend on a sofa, she is wearing bright clothing to signify that she's better and won the battle against the press. However her boyfriend looks a mess, he is wearing an eye patch, his bow-tie is hanging off his collar and he looks suspicious. which shows us that Lady ga ga is now in control and has more power over him.
Lady ga ga then gets up and places her magazine on the coffee table, a close up on the magazine says 'THE NEW IT GIRL' making lady ga ga back on top. She then walks over to a drinks table and makes a drink for her boyfriend, she opens her ring and empties the poison into his drink, this could suggest that her new boyfriend is potentially using her yet again but she's one step ahead.
After drinking the poison filled drink the boyfriend then looks at Lady ga ga in horror, realising what she's done to him. she happily drinks her cup of tea without a flinch or a care about what she's done. This shows us that she's never going to let anyone compromise/get in the way of her career.
After the boyfriend dies, Lady ga ga makes a hand gesture on her lips which is a sign you use when you say 'Oppps' she walks away with a phone call in the background to 911 telling them that she's killed her boyfriend. This is to represent the type of scenario the press will slam her for if anything was to happen if she was in a relationship with a guy.
The police arrive at the house with homicide detectives investigating the scene. Lady ga ga then walks out of her house with police escorting her to a police car where she is handcuffed with paparazzi all around her. This is similar to the start of the video where they found her on the floor after falling from her balcony, when the paparazzi took pictures of her there they said 'Lady Ga Ga Hits Rock Bottom' and 'Lady Ga Ga is OVER' now that she's being arrested by the police the paparazzi are saying 'She's Back!!!', 'We Love Her Again' and 'She's Innocent'. Even though she is clearly the murderer the media says that she's clearly not and they sing her praises in the newspapers but when something happens and she's the victim, they slate her. Lady ga ga killed her boyfriend as she's doing the opposite to what she'd normally do where they slate her, now she's seen as a hero. The music video then ends with her standing against a hight chart in a police station in greyscale scene, it then fades out revealing text saying 'The End' with 1940's style credits displayed on the screen.
