Diary Day 4 (Tuesday 6th October 2015) - Album Cover

Today i started to work on the Album Cover and Digipak, I mainly started to research individual Album Covers looking at different Bands and Artists in different areas of music such as Punk, Rock and Pop.

1) Green Day - American Idiot (Punk)
This is the first Album cover to come to mind when i think of Punk, Green Day have been influential for so many Artists in the industry in todays age, they have influenced the likes of 5 Seconds of
Summer, Bowling for Soup, You Me at Six and many more. The Artwork used on the album is so iconic its familiar to any Punk, Pop Rocker in the world. The Album is very basic but very meaning-ful at the same time. American Idiot is an album in which each song talks about the Idiot Nation of the United States of America, with each song referring to a certain character. The Album tells a story of democracy, Love and War within Suburban America. The Heart like a Hand Grenade shows the battle between Love and War in itself with the words American Idiot stained in distorted red text like the blood of a Nation.

2) McFly - Radio:ACTIVE (Pop)
This Album cover wasn't the first one to come to mind when i think of Pop, However the design of the cover is very basic for a Platinum selling Band. The Album shows 9 TV Screens, 4 with each individual member of McFly in each screen, the other 5 Screens show drawings of mouths which look like they are crying out for help. Radioactive refers to a broken down world in modern day society, The McFly Logo is boldly presented in the centre of the cover in Green Glowing Text like some Nuclear Chemical. There are little bits in the cover which add more detail to the album such as the little text in the top right hand side of the TV Monitors which read 'Radio: Active, 20/09/08, 20:15' This is subtle because the Monitors display the date in which the Album was released in this case '20th September 2008'.

3) 5 Seconds of Summer - Self Titled Debut Album (Punk Pop)
This is one of the newest Album covers in my collection which shows the 4 members of 5 Seconds of Summer standing infront of a white background with a spray painted X covering the Band like tape. The Band's Logo is quite iconic as it shows the Bands name in a sticker text, these stickers are the type you'd see on the side of a folder draw at work or on a lunch box. We can clearly see the Band's Symbol presented underneath the name which shows a tally reading '5'. This is very basic for any Band to do yet its very effective as this helps not only to brand the Artist but to also helps to sell merchandise, the Album Cover can be used on Posters, Lunch Boxes, School Bags and many more.

With the research i have gathered i now have more of an insight into what id like to have on my Album Cover for my Band T5. I now need to look at different Digipak's to decide on what id like to have presented in the booklet besides Lyrics and Pictures.
